The term “African American” is sorely misused in this country to identify those of African descent – aren’t Egyptians from Africa? Anyone from Tunis, Libya or Morocco would be as well.
The meaning was explained to me as to tie blacks together so that they may be united in the “struggle” that years of slavery and oppression has brought upon them.
That doesn’t make much sense to me as no one alive has owned or been a slave in the sense implied in literature describing the slave trade of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries of this nation. My family has not lived in the country long enough to have been part of it as I am 3rd generation American.
Barack OBAMA has had the title of African American tied to him but his story is not that of the descendant of slaves. He has no tie to them other than the fact his white ancestors might have owned slaves. Many blacks in the US owned slaves in those days but that fact is not talked about – it would be heresy.
I feel sorry for the man for having to live a dual identity – he must wrestle with it in his own mind.
But, he is on the world stage isn’t he?
Some things are packaged wrong. Blacks of this country that feel association to him for being a brother in the struggle and happy that one of their own is most likely the president are fooling themselves. He is as African American as a taxi driver from Kenya. His black heritage is different. I have known this from day one but the Time magazine article made it even more clear.
He is as white as he is black and he is aware of it. I hope no unreal pressures are upon him from either side to make a stand.
I think the black/white point of view needs to be dropped by all Americans for this election because it is not about that. It should never be at any other time and I would ask everyone to do so.
Something I have come to realize is OBAMA has a created comic book hero vision of himself which plays in his mind as a reanimated Marx, Malcolm X and Farrakhan super being hell bent on bringing the USA down to a total social state and thereby ruination to better serve those who are not wealthy.
Liberal socialists think those of wealth are to be bled to feed those that don’t give a shit.
Every time he opens his mouth I hear socialist Communism.
He and too many other people in this country feel it a crime to be wealthy. Tax the wealthy for the sake they are so. Split up their belongings and give them to the poor. Of course, the socialist leaders get first pickings and end up with most of everything which leaves little for the everyday starving citizen.
